  1. Mike: please Gawd stop pronouncing lieutenant the way it’s spelled, and the way Americans pronounce it (which I don’t criticize). It’s “Leftenant” in the British and Commonwealth Armies. I hasten to add that I am no anglophile; just a Canadian. In any event, as you will see http://dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/lieutenant, the English do have this idiosyncrasy, about this. The men who bore that rank in your narrative pronounced it that way,and I think they would have preferred to have been called Leftenants. By the way, you are doing a brilliant job in this podcast, as you had in the Battle of Verdun. World War 1 really explains the modern world far more than most realize. You are helping to revive that experience for modern ears.

    1. Hi Jack,

My apologies for the delayed response. I will fix that pronunciation issue ASAP (ay-sap).

Please bear with me as I must now undo years of the American pronunciation.

      Best regards,

      Mike
